This semester I have read Lord of The Flies, Finally free, In Defense of Food, and The Outsiders. I enjoyed three out of the four that I read. I found those three interesting but the other confused me.
Lord of The Flies overall has been one of my favorite books that I have ever read. It is full of adventure and drama. Every chapter is suspenseful and making you want to read more and more.
The outsiders was a very short book and at the same time it was such a nailbiter. It had me at the edge of my seat every time. The good thing about it was that it was short and easy to understand.
In defense of Food will be the most hated book I have ever read. It made me want to pull all of the hair out of my head and scream. The book made no sense at all and I disagreed with a lot with the author. I thought that it was not written well. It had me very confused at the writing style.
I enjoyed most of the books. I would definitely read all of them again except for In defense of Food.

midterm exam
Im am getting very nervous about the exam for this semester. I noticed that I was not paying attention as much as I should have been to better prepare myself for the exam. I am going to be spending lots and lots of time trying to memorize things that we have learned in class.
All of this is due to procrastinating and doing blogs and reading books at the very last minute!! I keep telling myself that I need to stop procrastinating and start doing them as soon as possible but I always forget. I do not know what to do.

outside reading book
I am currently still reading the book that I have been reading for the past five weeks. It has been hard lately to get any free time to ever sit back and read except on the weekends. This has made me to start to forget little things about the book that are important.
Right now in the book he is talking about the bad choices that he makes once he leaves college. He goes back to the projects where he once lived and meets his old friends that became a big influence on him. All of a sudden his life started to change. He started getting into dogfighting and drugs. He starts to get seriously involved with the dogfighting and finally gets caught. This is where I am at right now in the book.

short story post
The three stories that I have read were The Sniper, A Worn Path, and The Catbird Seat. I thought that the last two were quite boring. Wheras the sniper made me feel like I was there with the character. Im not saying that the other two are bad choices, im just saying that I enjoyed the sniper better. Probably because I like stories having to do with war and fighting. Something that includes guns in it.
When I heard we were going to be writing a thesis on a story, I was excited thinking about writing about The Sniper. The bad thing is; The story is only three pages and the thesis is going to be 3-5 pages long. So I now have to choose between the other two stories. I can't decide yet.

short story reading response
The short story books that we have been reading for the past few weeks have been pretty sad and depressing. Then a few of them have been some of the dumbest things I have ever heard. For example, "Harrison Bergeron" was by far the weirdest peice of writing that I have ever read. I did not get a single thing out of it. I could read the story and understand it but I could not seem to process it. Some of the stories though were very good. Even though I thought the ending to "A & P"was not quite complete, I liked Sammy as a character. The short story "And of Clay we are Created" was excellent. It was very sad though but it taught me a lesson like most of the other ones did.

1st quarter evaluation
This quarter in english class, I think I participated average. I think that I can do a whole lot more in class though. It took me a little while to figure out that asking the teachers questions and going to see them during tutorial and free time helps tremendously. My blogs were not as good as I had wanted them to be. Honestly, I believe that I procrastinated on almost every blog and short story assignment which is one of the main things that I am going to improve on. Not turning completing my blogs at the beginning of the year is what i really think killed my grade more than anything. I also need to pay attention and put more effort into my annotations on my short story assignments. My binder sort of fell apart and now is not as organized as it should be. I have started to put handouts and useful worksheets in the back of my binder where I can not find them or will take me forever to find and if I do, I find them crumpled. These are some big things in english class that I hope to improve.

plot response
The book I am reading right now is called Finally Free. In the book the author talks about his past and then while he is talking about his past he stops and talks about the present. Then, right after he continues to talk about his past. I find this very confusing and irritating. I wish he would just stay in the past until he gets to the present.
I am a writer who...
I am a writer who likes to write about sports. Writing about sports is the only type of writing that interests me. Everything else is boring to me. I find it easy to write about Baseball or Football but, when it comes to anything else I just find it hard.

hunting
It is almost October and I am ready for deer hunting season! This weekend I got myself prepared for bow season. I took a ride through the woods yesterday and I didn't realize how much I missed being out there. I love how it is so peaceful out there where there is nobody there but me and it is so quiet. Hunting is my favorite thing to do along with baseball and it teaches me important lessons that will become useful in life.
literacy narrative group work
When I first started writing my literacy narritive I thought to myself "This is going to be so bad I am going to fail this." I never really read my writing and then Dr. deGravelles assingned me to partner up with Dru Powell and Mary Beth and that really scared me. I thought to myself " This is going to be horrible and they are going to make fun of me and this is going to be miserable reading this to them." They actually told me that is was good and I felt releived. They gave me some really good ideas that I plan on using in my literacy narrative.

literacy narrative ideas
I have been thinking about what I am going to write as my literacy narrative for a few days now and I still am not sure. I think that most of my experiences with reading and writing assignments aren’t very good. I did not enjoy the books I have read in eighth grade and seventh grade at all.
The two reading assignments that I will probably be choosing from are Romeo and Juliet and To Kill a Mockingbird. I believe that these two books were written well but I do not believe that these are the type of books that I enjoy but I still will write about them.
reading response
I chose to read another book in addition to red kayak this week. I was walking around Barnes and Nobles when I saw a book that interested me. It is called Finally Free by Michael Vick, the current quarterback for the philiedelphia ealgles. Through his career I have been watching him and he has grown to be one of my favorite players.
Michael explains that he lived in a bad neighborhood in the projects while his mother and father working two jobs to make sure that Michael and his brothers and sisters had the best life possible. He talks about how his family were very serious about there religion and faith and that without trusting god you could not do anything.
He goes through a lot trying to make himself a better player to make it into the college level and then to the pro level. Once he finally makes it into the Nfl he starts losing his faith in the lord and makes bad decisions. Then he has to rebuild his life and his skills to try to make a comeback. The phileadelphia eagles decide to give him a chance and he has been doing great ever since. I have read 78 pages so far and I can’t seem to get enough of this book.

hurricane isaac
It was late monday night and i was thinking about hurricane Isaac. I remember hurricane gustav and how we lost power for days. I was laying in bed wondering if this one would be as bad. I could hear the wind whistling and blowing. The gusts of winds were very strong.
The telivision was on and i was waiting for everything to go black. i eventually fell asleepand finally woke up the next morning and nothing had changed. The news said that the hurricane would be near by 7 Tuesday night. The weather worsened and and lost power while I was asleep. It came back on not much later. We eventually lost and regained power three more times. This hurricane was not nearly as bad as Gustav was for me.

in defense of baseball, a baseball players manifesto
ever since i started playing baseball at a very young age i have fallen in love with it. It is my favorite sport to play. i always liked and played football too, but i never liked it nearly as much as baseball. i find everything about the game so interesting. most people dont like practicing but for some reason, i like it. A lot of people think baseball is boring but i never really thought it was. baseball is everything to me.
the book im reading right now is called red kayak. it is pretty slow right now and i have read 93 pages. Its kind of interesting. It is about a boy named Brady who lives in Chesapeake bay. He has two friends named J.t. and Digger. The only thing that has happened that is really important right now is that he saved one of his neighbors babies from dying in a river.
