umberella
For our blog post I chose Umberella by Rihanna and Jay Z. It is one of my favorite songs of all time. I have listened to this song at least 1,000 times and it still never gets old. I beleive that when you listen to a song, you really don't pay attention to the actual lyrics and what they mean. But , when you focus on the lyrics and what they mean you look at the song in a whole different way. I noticed right at the beginning that Jay Z says," Rainman is back, with little miss sunshine Rihanna where you at?" I think that he is showing somehow that they are opposites. Rihanna then says, "When the sun shines well shine together." I feel like this shows some sort of connection with each other. Rihanna then shows how she cares about Jay Z, "Now that it's raining more than ever, Know that we'll still have each other,You can stand under my umbrella,You can stand under my umbrella." I noticed what the song was actually about.

I'm going to be honest, I totally didn't notice that. He probably meant that, so that was a good poetic analysis. However I don't really feel that she meant she cared about Jay-Z specifically. Probably Chris Brown. Just kidding. Some random guy.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I feel like everyone gets caught up in the repetition of "Ella" or "Eh" that that don't pay attention to the meaning of the words, but only the rhythm. Great job in looking past that repetition to the deeper meaning of the lyrics.
